In order to achieve our vision, we need innovative, inspiring and dynamic people to join our team. Want to join us?

Your new role

This flexible, fully remote role is within the Data & Analytics hub, reporting to the Head of UX.

The successful candidate will craft meaningful product journeys and help systematically align research data & analytics products for more consistent experiences.
This is an exciting time to join the company with an opportunity to materially impact how design is done at Digital Science and create a positive impact for millions of people advancing global science.

We are looking for a senior level strategic designer who enjoys working in complex domains to create meaningful impact and thrives in collaborating with multiple teams.

Many of our design problems will revolve around efficiency, information retrieval and visualisation with a diverse range of opportunities to tackle some unique design challenges and interaction paradigms sparked by new technologies such as AI.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partner with product managers and designers to run both generative and evaluative design research projects leading to actionable insights - using a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Bring clarity, direction and collaboration to ambiguous design problems with conceptual design, remote workshops and visual communication across multiple senior stakeholders
  • A keen eye for interaction design to solve complex information retrieval and data visualisation problems at scale
  • Prototype and iteratively craft pragmatic, simple and efficient product experiences which work within established constraints and solve problems in a systematic manner
  • Work in close collaboration with product, engineering and marketing teams to ensure consistently high design quality and measure design impact
  • Work closely with design and product leadership to contribute to practice alignment and designOps initiatives
  • Help foster collaborative practices and rituals both within the design team and across adjacent disciplines
  • Contribute to collaborative prototypes and develop concepts for new interaction paradigms sparked by technologies like AI with a particular focus on design ethics

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Extensive experience in delivering strategic and systematic UX work within enterprise, AI or other highly complex domains
  • Ability to own an end-to-end human-centred design process, working independently or in partnership with other designers
  • Ability to plan and execute remote design research activities and workshops using qual., quant., and co-design methods, leading to data-informed design decisions
  • Experience in working with and maintaining design systems
  • Collaborative, humble and consultative mindset - we are not rock stars here and we leave our egos at the door to be successful
  • Clear visual communication and storytelling skills to help communicate design rationale for the team and leadership
  • Ability to strategically balance scope, speed and quality for the best outcomes
  • Fluent design production in modern collaborative design tools and ideally interactive prototyping (e.g. Figma, Miro etc.)
  • Experience in mentoring designers, service design, designing for human - AI interactions, data visualisation or inclusive design would be an advantage
  • Have a unique perspective, experience or a design skill which helps advance our mission? We’d love to hear about it!

We appreciate that designers can come from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences that might not be “standard”.
We really value passionate people who care about our mission, extend our collective knowledge or bring unique, diverse perspectives to our team.

You might feel like you don’t “check all the boxes” as you read this job description. We’d encourage you to apply anyway as we know there is no such thing as a “perfect” candidate and rather we strive to create an environment where we can grow together
